PLAYOFFS

2014 PLAYOFF SCHEDULING

Teams and Conferences Eligible for Playoffs, and the Optimist Bowl:

All teams in the Jr. PeeWee, PeeWee, and Jr. Midget, age/weight divisions are eligible to participate in the playoffs, and Optimist Bowl.

Playoff games and match-up games will begin on October 18th following the end of the regular season for all age/weight divisions.

Tiny-Mites:

All Tiny-Mite teams will be scheduled to play on the seventh Saturday, (October 18th), eighth Saturday (October 25th), and ninth Saturday, November 1st.  These games will end the regular season for the Tiny-Mite teams.

Since the Tiny-Mite division is a teaching division, per Pop Warner rules, Tiny-Mite teams are not eligible for post-season games.

Mitey-Mites:

All Mitey-Mite teams will be scheduled to play on the seventh Saturday, (October 18th), eighth Saturday (October 25th), and ninth Saturday, (November 1st) against teams with similar records.  These games will end the regular season for the Mitey-Mite teams.

Since the Mitey-Mite division is an instructional division, per Pop Warner rules, Mitey-Mite teams are not eligible for playoffs.  Mitey-Mite teams are permitted to play two post-season bowl games either in the Little Panthers’ League or in an adjacent league upon written approval of both leagues and the Region Director.

Playoffs:

Playoff games prior to the Optimist Bowl will be played at the site of the higher seeded team if possible.

For teams that have the same number of losses, but played a different number of games during the regular season, the teams will be considered “tied” in the standings.

Tie-Breaker System:  In determining seeding and eligibility for the play-offs, the following tie-breaker system will be used for teams with the same record:

When two teams have the same record:

(1)Head to head competition, but if the teams did not play each other, or if they played twice during the season and split the games against each other, then

(2)Outcome (win or loss) against their common opponent with the best record, and if still tied, then

(3)Outcome (win or loss) against their next common opponent with the next best record, and so forth, if necessary, then

(4)If the teams are still tied, and the tie to be broken is solely to determine seeding rather than a play-off spot, then the tie will be broken with a coin toss, or

(5)If the tie to be broken is to determine a play-off spot, and only two teams are tied for that spot, there may be (depending on ability to schedule) a play-in game between the two teams tied for the last play-off spot on the Tuesday or Wednesday night before the play-offs begin.  Otherwise a coin toss will determine the playoff spot.

When more than two teams have the same record.

(6)If more than two teams are tied for the last play-off spot, there will be a drawing to determine the team that will participate in the play-off game.

(7)If more than two teams are tied for the last two or more playoff spots, there may be (depending on ability to schedule) play-in games (drawing determines the opponents) to determine the playoff teams.

Rainouts:  All make up games must be scheduled through the league office with the Director of Football Operations.

If only some regular season games are rained out on a Saturday, an effort will be made to reschedule those games for the next day or during the week.  However, if it is not possible to reschedule and play all games within an age/weight division, any games played that Saturday will not count in the standings.

If there are rain-outs of play-off games, and all playoff games cannot be rescheduled, the league reserves the right to determine the top seeds remaining.

Jr. PeeWee Age/Weight Division

The top eight seeds and ties in the division are eligible for the playoffs, and Optimist Bowl.  Opponents for the first round of playoff games on October 18th will be determined by having the highest seed play the lowest seed, the second highest seed playing the second lowest seed, etc.
